OUR MISSION:
The road to parity is a long one, that only moves forward when we all do our part. While legislation, demonstrations, and activism are vital to our push toward equality, we at the SWFC believe that visibility and storytelling are crucial to public perception, cultural shifts, and eventual societal change. Our mission is to facilitate a space for female filmmakers to gather and learn, network, create, and share the resources and tools necessary to foster a successful career while elevating each other in the process.
ABOUT SWFC
Sacramento's Women in Film coalition is based in downtown Sacramento, California, and was established in 2017. The SWFC was created to encourage women in the film making industry to gather and explore the world of cinema together. The SWFC is a space where women can meet to discuss and learn about film and film making, share resources, meet other women in the industry, and collaborate on film projects. Our goal is to elevate women to higher places in the film industry. We believe that women working in front of and behind the camera is vital to creating realistic female characters, sharing women's important stories, and creating visibility for women of all walks of life, which in turn leads to audiences relating and empathizing with characters that are different than themselves.
WOMEN IN FILM: A COALITION
The SWFC is a space for women to explore many topics, including but not limited to feminist film theory, working in the industry as a women, and studying other women working in film. Here at the SWFC we recognize the value of intersectionality, and work to incorporate a diverse range of perspectives into our studies and content.
The SWFC organizes workshops, study groups, festivals, guest speakers, mixers, events, and group trips in an attempt to educate and expose women in film to the resources and tools, people and information necessary to help them further their careers.
Membership
The SWFC is a network of artists entering or working in the industry of video production made up of producers, actors, directors, writers, grips, makeup artists, PAs, editors, and everything else in between. Membership is free, meetings and events are optional, though highly encouraged. Meet other likeminded artists, and further your career while at the same time learning how to actively fight against gender disparity.
Some meetings are exclusive to members, in an attempt to create a safe space for women to explore and learn together, while other events hosted by the SWFC will be open to non-female/non-filmmakers in an attempt to educate others on gender issues in the industry, and how to do a better job of fighting gender disparity.
